What is the difference between HP at the wheel and HP at the crank ?

What is the difference between HP at the wheel and HP at the crank ?

You may have an engine that is 400 horse power but that doesnt mean that all 4 hundred horses are getting to the wheels. Allot of horse power is absorbed through engine mounts, transmission, and drive axles. Also if your running allot of accesories it could rop power from the engine.

The differenace is exactly what the title says. Crank HP is the HP quoted when manufactures sell cars. For instance DOHC NA's are rated at 222hp. THats 222 HP at the crank on an engine dyno. WHP is the number you get when you strap the car to a chassis dyno and get the numbers after drivetrain loss.
