94 Jetta stalling problem

I got a 94 Jetta, starts fine, runs fine, but it stalls out of nowhere all the time. The car won't make a sound, no shaking, the engine just stops and you won't know it till you try giving it gas. I checked the mass air flow sensor, and cleaned it, ran alright for a bit, then stalled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I should probably also mention the Jetta is an automatic transmission, 2.0L 4 cyclinder engine, and I recently put a new starter two days before it started stalling, from what I can tell the start isn't the problem though. Once again any help would be grand.

Re: 94 Jetta stalling problem

Does it only stall at idle or will it quit while your foot is on the gas.

both, whether I'm giving gas or sitting at a light. The rpms just drop to nothing, and the power steering goes out.

Re: 94 Jetta stalling problem

That can be difficult to figure out, especially since it probably starts back up. Most likely causes include the electrical connection at the distributor, the ECM power supply relay and fuel pump relay. You need to determine if it is loosing fuel or spark, which can be difficult w/intermittent problems.

I got it, it's a loose connection in the fuse box, kinda figured it out on a fluke, I was driving and it stalled and I noticed the clock resets, so then when it would stall I'd kick the fuse box and it would go again. Of course this won't last forever so I gotta get a new box. I appreciate the input though, thank you.

Angry 94 Jetta stalling

I have a similar problem with my Jetta which is driving me crazy!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. My car starts and runs fine until it warms up, and come to a stop. After this, it will miss at highway speeds, and sometimes stall at WOT just like you turn the key off. I drive this car 60 miles to work everyday, and it runs great until I get almost home and stop at a stoplight. If I never have to stop, it will never give me problems. I have found out that when it starts missing, it quits when I accellerate or slow down. It will continue to miss at 55-65 MPH for the rest of the day. If I shift into neutral (auto trany) and turn the key off, and back on while driving, the miss will go away until I stop again. I can always tell when it is going to start giving me problems because it hesitates afert stopping. No hesitation=no problems. I did find a broken breather pipe from the front of the block to the valve on the valvecover and fixed it, but it didn't help. This car has 265k miles on it and has never had any problems until now.

Re: 94 Jetta stalling problem

I joined this forum because of similar problems with my daughter's 94 Jetta. Currently we are having problems with the oil light and alarm going off repeatedly, even though both oil pressure switches have been replaced. The car stalls. The engine also surges intermittently. I will have my mechanic check what has already been suggested. Any other suggestions? I'm a frustrated mom!

94 Jetta iginition problems etc

Well, I've read so many threads on Jetta III starting problems etc. My daughter just bought a problem Jetta from this very sly guy. Next Day the car wouldn't start. I replaced all the relays on the fuse panel, fuel pump relay, ECU relay, etc. No problem since then. Starts every time.

All the problems above pretty much describe my 94 Jetta too. I am going to try fixing all those things and hopefully that will help mine. Seems to be a common problem in 94 Jettas
