3rd cat?

I was just wondering if the collector in a '95 is in fact a cat cause I heard it was a cat and also a cat and resonator in one? If it is a cat is it "legal" to remove it in Ca? and does anybody have any expierience with it?

Re: 3rd cat?

It is illegal to remove cats on anything, it's just a matter of getting caught or not.

Its only illegal if you get caught or maybe it is, but who cares if you don't get caught!lol If you live in Ca I wouldn't do it because they are more strict on their emissions.

i heard thos cats due seperate jobs ford enginered that way.so the car wont pass the emmisions test.i live in NY where we unfortunitly have these test. i would just leave them alone, you really wont notice much of a HP gain by taking them off anyway. if you want nice sound just change your muffs or cat-back exaust.but even a cat-back will only give you maybe 5 HP. Getting even more expensive changing the complete exaust in its entirety including headers and then putting high flow cats on willgive you some HP,maybe 20-30 cause of the headers and also a K&N or removal of your silencer box.

Thumbs up 3rd cat

I just had to modify my 3rd cat. I removed the exhaust system to the rear of the cat and took a bar and knocked all the insides loose . Then started the engine ( which by the way would not run prior to this) reving the motor blew all the pieces out. then reconnected the exhaust system. the car runs great and I have no codes at all.

the insides that you broke up and blew out are ceramic and when they are together look like a honeycomb.all 3 cats have a simlar setup.the ceramic heats up very hot so the gasses going thew the exaust continue to burn to bring the cars emmissions down.
sometimes if the ceramic breaks like in your case it will clog and you could do what you did but depending where you live if your state has a emmissions test it might not pass.all depends on whos test and how they test.if theres no emmissions test good for you.

yeah i live in IL and we don't have the emissions test. and i did the same thing with my 94 cause it got clogged. speaking of my 94 i sold it to my exs sister and now there is 5 big &^#$%^# dents in it. that really pisses me off. but i guess oh well it's not my car nemore right.
