Airbag Question

If the battery is disconnect and has been for a while, is there any chance it will go off? Is it vehicle specific?

Re: Airbag Question

If the battery is unhooked your airbag will be in-operable.. You should also remove the airbag fuse..

Im not sure what you mean by vehicle specific.. tha actual bag is part of the steering wheel so Yeah, that would be vehicle specific.. As are the clockspring and other steering column componants

Im not sure about interchangability between the modules and sensors..

Re: Airbag Question

by vehicle specific i ment does it matter what vehicle its in, if it would go off without the battery. Basicly my father wanted to know for his corvette because he wants to change the steering wheel, and I wanted to know for my firebird, cuz eventually I want to change that steering wheel too.

Thanks

Re: Airbag Question

Just pull the airbag fuse (and for safety measure, unhook the battery as well) And you'l be fine..

remove the four torx bolts from the back of the wheel, pull the airbag aside and unhook the large yellow(or orange) airbag connector, than undue the wheel nut and you'l need a steering wheel puller to pull the wheel off

Re: Airbag Question

i thought about changin my steering wheel to something more interesting looking, but to me its just not worth lossing the airbag... sounds like something you would really regret if something bad happens. especially considering I don't always remember to wear my seatbelt.

Re: Airbag Question

well.... I'm just telling the truth. Accidents are common, and probably more common with people who use their car to the fullest extent. I have done a lot of stupid shit in a car (on highways too), but I almost always think safety first. I've been in three car accidents, only one of which was my fault. but for that one my brother had to get stiches in his forehead from being thrown into the windshield... and I always think about 'what if he would have been injured for life' or even worse, cause it could have easily happened. It would be hard for me to live with that on my concious for the rest of my life. I think most of us take seat belts for granted. Just the push of a button somtimes means the difference between life and death. We forget the importance of that stuff until we have to learn it the hard way... and I have learned my lesson. (i'm done preaching now)
