Radiator

Hello, I just got a 96 K1500, and it has a coolant leak. When I was searching the Intake Manifold for any signs of leakage I noticed that on the passenger side of my radiator there are two threaded holes. One near the top and one near the bottom. It apears as if something should be in these holes, but nothing is. I can see a bit of coolant on the Lower radiator hose directly beneath the holes and some puddled up on the crossmember that goes beneath the radiator. My question is this: Should there be something in these ports? Or should they be plugged? or are they meant to be left open apparently spewing coolant? Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure it's the transmission cooler lines. There is a separate transmission cooler installed on this truck and these must be the leftover ports. Should I plug these holes still?

You're right, they are most likely the transmission cooler line connectors. The transmission cooler is completely seperate from the radiator in terms od where the liquids are. If you want to plug them, you certainly could, but there's really no reason to.

They put those holes in so aftermarket radiators can fit older trucks that had the tranny cooler lines going into the radiator ( lets it fit a wider range of trucks) but as you know the tranny cooler on the newer trucks are in front of the radiator. You do not need to worry about fluid coming out as they are a closed loop. Hope this helps

Thanks, for the replies. They definately help. I'll probably end up plugging them just to make it look cleaner. Now I'm off to remove my Intake Manifold
