eHobbies makes a funny...

There is something absolutely ridiculous about eHobbies... oh yeah, their international shipping policies. I am in Canada, they are in the US. OK. Different countries, but not that different. There isn't even any water between us.

But look at this shipping cost! $22USD Item, $64USD by the time if gets to me (if there's no additional cost at the border).

I can get the same kit through any of at least 3 Japanese retailers, who have to ship over a huge body of water, for less than $25USD in my hands.

Why would I ever want to order from eHobbies with shipping costs like this? Ludicrous.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not intended to 'bash' eHobbies, just pointing out that their international policy is pathetic.

Damn, that is a rip off!

What's different to packaging an item for Canada as opposed to the USA?

That said, even their US S&H is ridiculous!

Re: eHobbies makes a funny...

They are total ripoff. I already Contacted them. I wanted a PhotoEtches part (very small) of 12$us.

With shipping and craps, the final invoice was near 45$us !!! for a small PE sheet, under the 20$ limit for free customs.

I will NEVER buy from them.

A kit should cost 10$us max (often lower) from US to Canada. 3 Kit should be 20$us (airmail) so They really try to rip us.

Re: eHobbies makes a funny...

If you are too polite to bash eHobbies then please allow me. They are either a) rip-off merchants relying on the ignorance of people to actually pay money for nothing, or b) to stupid to set their site up correctly or, c) don't want international business but going through the pretence for some obscure reason.

Either way there are far better alternatives. Even 20 dollars for domestic shipping sounds like a rip-off.

Re: eHobbies makes a funny...

Hey,

Ignorance. Yeah. I take it as a site for beginners that have never seen a hobby store before. People who don't know how to shop. Rich folks lookin to get somehthing that don't want to hassle with ebay, or actually look for anything. They just look for what their kid wants and get it from the 1st place they see.
I have seen these people in stores. I feel bad for them. But I reckon they'd jsut rather drop more money then to try.

Frank X.

Re: eHobbies makes a funny...

Yep, I firmly agree rip-off f**kw**ks!!!!

As I stated in another thread I tried and failed to get dullcote from them, just aswell when I noticed their shipping charges.

I noticed a nice display case they had at about $6 but it was roughly $24 including the shipping!!

Things are meant to be cheaper when ordered from the web, let's hope we can make enough people stop delaing with them so that;

a) they go out of business
or
b) they reveiw their postage policy and wise-up

I think all industry and retailer sectors have the “rip off” merchants, mostly the shops that most newbies use, because they don’t know enough to understand that they are being ripped off.

The IT world has it with PC World, they are the worse supplier of IT kit I’ve ever seen. What is also shocking is that a lot of LHS are also the same. They seem intent of ripping you off, or giving bad guidance etc. It’s embarrassing sometimes, as this can deter some of those who want to get into the hobby away. Or they end up paying a lot of money for something they could have got elsewhere for a whole lot less.. And this isn’t good, as they start to feel the hobby is too expensive, or start to feel frightened to not do anything new, or out of the box in fear of the expense. Shame really.

All that can be done is for the more educated of us in the industry /hobby field try and ensure no one falls for their insidious sales tactics. I tend to use HLJ, and their postage overseas is very competitive, and they have just sent my first order in pristine condition. Very happy with the costs, but they did take a long time. The best comes to those who wait I guess..!!
