Power Programmers
Does anybody have any experience with power programmers like the Hyper tech, Superchips or Crane cams powermaxx? I am curious about the power and fuel economy gains I could get on my 1998 5.7, but I hate to spend the money if they don't deliver the way that they say they do.

Hi,
I have the Hypertech programmer on a 2001 Yukon XL K2500 with the 6.0 liter engine because you can program it for towing (91 Octan) performance (91 Octan) or for 87 Octan, forgot what they do with that. It also can firm up the transmission shift, which I like, when towing and when not towing. The trick really is to use 91 Octane and use the higher knock resistance to push the program to be more aggressive. I can not imagine getting more fuel economy by using a programmer. The most important instrument for fuel economy is your foot - the absence of it from the gas pedal. What is your gas mileage now? Usual steps for power are: K&N cold air intake "Free Flow" exhaust Headers Programmer The first three will make your car noisier, I took my K&N cold air intake and the free flow muffler back out because of the racket.
