Black Intake....

Yesterday I decided to do some work to the Camaro (tb bypass, change a few hoses, etc..) so I had the intake elbow off. While I had it off I decided to look inside the throttle body and when I did I noticed that the entire inside of the intake manifold (for what I can see) is covered in a black oily residue. I thought it may have been the PCV valve, but it looks good (rattles, but replacing anyways). Another person thought that it may be the intake manifold gasket, so I'll replace that anyways while I have the intake off to clean all the crap out of it as possible. I just want to make sure I know what the problem is so I dont have to take things apart more than once. Any suggestions?

No, not my house. Net even my state. I wish I lived in that type of climate...then I could drive it all year round.

FUN STUFF!!! Especially in 25 degree weather....this is what happens when I get bored. I had to visit an uncle in the hopsital today so I didnt get a chance to continue with ripping the front of the engine apart to change the timing cover seals, so that I'll see if I canget the time to do tomorrow.

Anything else I should do while I have everything ripped apart?

Re: Black Intake....

Yup inside is all carb build up. Only way to clean it is to have a machine shop hot tank it or buy a whole lot of detailing brushes and a case of carb cleaner.

Good Luck.

Re: Black Intake....

yeah there is no problem, the black is normal(as long as there are no chunks or abnormal formations).. you can clean it all out and 2000 miles later its gonna look the same..

ive had my supra intake manifold off 3 times since it was rebuilt 8,000kms ago (yea its a POS and its always broke!) and every time ide clean it, and the next time itd be black again.,. a can of throttlebody cleaner will do wonders but you' be fine as long a you keep the throttlebody clean

Re: Black Intake....

Yes, carb build up will be moist sludge.
