My golf cuts out after about 10-15mins driving. Some times it works perfectly but on other occasions it also has this acceleration problem whereby it stutters, I can also on occasion press the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and there is minimal acceleration. I have changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, oil filter, the grage has changed carbs, and various other bits and bobs... does anyone have any further suggestions??
Thanks |

I'm having similar problems with my golf. Did you come to any conclusions?

If it dies the again try removing the filler cap on the tank if you hear a sucking noise the breather is blocked and a vacuum is formed in the tank. hope it helps

Re: Golf Mk2 1990 1275cc
As fuel gets sucked out of the tank to the engin it needs to be replaced by air and this is the work of the breather.I can't exactly remember the position of the breather on the mark 2 it is either in the filler cap itself or on top of the tank.If it is the last named you should be able to see it if you look under the car just behind the back axle. A quick way to test it is to drive the car without the filler cap that way enough air can get into the tank.(Would'nt do it on a dusty day though) Let me know if it helps pls

My car seems to be working fine now. I took it to a independant VW mechanic and they found that the air intake valve (or something like that) was not working (I did not quite understand myself), the fuel was freezing, thus creating the sporadic movement. Now it is working.

The confusing thing about it all is I live in Sussex!! Not the coldest place in the country... My car is still working fine so whatever they did, it worked a treat.

I had the exact same problem with my Golf, in my case it was a dirty carburater and that a 'shield' in front of it was broke, so it didn't protect it for cold winds(i only had problems in winter), maybe, it's 1 of those 2, good luck!
