97 JGC Ltd.-ASD or similar functionality?

Does the 97 JGC Ltd have circuitry or mechanism that function as an automatic shut down. Have an intermittent start problem, cold and hot starting. Engine will fire immediate and then die, or fire and cough along for a few seconds until dying.

Don't know about the GC's but there is a ASD relay in the cherokees. It's in the power distribution box right behind battery, passenger side. Remove lid turn over it tells what relays are for what. I HAVE A SHEET FOR THE CHEROKEES 97 4.0'S Dale

I have diagrams. I found an Automatic Shutdown Relay in the power distribution panel under the hood. Not sure when or how is kicks in and performs an automatic shutdown. Do you?

HI,THERE ARE 2 FUSES THAT ALSO RUN IN THE AUTO SHUT DOWN SYSTEM. A #20 AMP. YELLOW AND A #15 AMP BLUE . I'VE FOUND THE 15 AMP BLUE FUSE BLOWN FROM THE OXYGEN SENSOR WIRES GETTING BURNT AND SHORTING OUT. ONE DIDN'T BLOW THE FUSE IT SHORTED ENOUGH TO TRIP THE ASD RELAY AND SHUT JEEP OFF. THE ASD RELAY IS IF YOU ROLL THE JEEP THE RELAY WILL KILL ENGINE AND FUEL SYSTEM DOWN. IT CONTROLS SPARK AND FUEL. DALE

I had a similar problem. Do your time and date reset when this happens. I had bad battery connections from some corrosion. It would do it occasionally, no matter what the weather. Maybe give that a try if you haven't solved the problem.

Re: 97 JGC Ltd.-ASD or similar functionality?

I had a similar problem with a fuse for the ASD and found that the wires under the car for the downflow oxygen sensor had come loose and were grounding on the driveshaft blowing the fuse.
