90 4runner making ticking noise

Hi all,

I have a 90 4runner 22re making a ticking noise. It sounds to me like a fuel injector but as I am not really a mechnic this is only a guess. vehcicle seems to run fine, but that ticking sure is getting on my nerves.
Last I checked the fuel milage it was 18.6. Its a 5 spped. Does have this weird idle thing going on though. I set it at 950 warm, when its cold it hits 1500-2000. Then sometimes when it warms it will go down to 500rpm. this is not constant though. It actually idles smooth. Any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

Noise

Hi, thanks for the reply.

The noise is happening all the time, its a constant tick, tick, tick. It is only noticeable when I am out of the truck or if its very quiet at a redlight. I am almost positive it is not coming from the valve cover. thanks again.

22re ticking

From expereince and from a Toyota master technicoan mouth, if the 22re is making a small, repetitve, "ticking" you are are fine. It' s a good sound, from a healthy 22re motor. 22re motors are famous for this soft repetitive ticking.
