Talking Musical Horn

I ordered of JC Whitney a set of there electical air compressor all hardware included Dixie Air Horns for my blazer. I want to know if the horn wire goes to anything else because i plan on splicing into it to hook up the horn when i get em in the mail and wanted to make sure since the Haynes manual is not helping me out on this. I plan on putting a new battery in in April just because i do not know how old it is even though i had the alternator replaced and have had no problems since hooking up the fog lights. Any info be cool.

Re: Musical Horn

Do your self a favor, don't hook the compressor directly to the horn wire. Use the horn wire to trigger a relay. The relay can power up the compressor. That way the load of the compressor won't pull the amperage through the factory wiring. It probably can't handle it.

Relay is the best route as mentioned with your main feed coming directly from the battery.

Then paint your truck orange and put a big 01 on the doors, weld them shut and run from the Rosco P Coltrane like a good ol' boy.

Re: Musical Horn

ok i have a silly question but since i never wired a relay up here it to goes.
Do i splice the horn wire hook up to the relay then add wire to the compressor or do i need to find the end of the wire in the engine compartment hook that up. I got them today and i was reading through the directions and there fuzzy. I just want to be sure. Thanks

Re: Musical Horn

Ok We followed the instuctions for the single wire install. It works great with the heater on and the lights on only a slight flicker of the headlights before it plays. I installed the 5 trumpet dixie air horn. Now the problem i found today is when my cd player is on and i go to use the horn it kills the battery within in an instant and the car will not start for 5 minutes. It did this 3 times. I checked all my fuses and my battery cables. There all good. The battery and alternator have both been replaced in the last month. We are planning to install your relay tomorrow to see if it corrects the problem at all. I was told i do not need it but it can not hurt. Any ideas. My dad said maybe voltage regulator but i disagree.

Re: Musical Horn

It sounds like a bad or corroded connection at the battery.

Re: Musical Horn

The cables are good and tight. There was no corrosion on them. Someone said to install a dummy ground wire because maybe this one can not handle all the load but i never heard of that.

Re: Musical Horn

Now up above you said to hook the horn wire into the relay then to the battery then to the compressor. The instructions here for the relay are pretty much for the horn button install. Do i follow those or do i run the green wire to where it says horn wire on relay then a power wire from relay to compressor then a ground wire back to relay then a ground wire from relay back to metal then a 20 amp inlne fuse wire to the battery.

Re: Musical Horn

Well i have the oil cooler hoses and gaskets plus its a huge upgrade over what was on there. Plus i think when you put 600 bucks in your rig in a month and a half its worth it to yourself.

Re: Musical Horn

After the hoses are in over the weekend I am going to give it a little look over and deem it fit for Virginia Easter Weekend. Good 225 miles there and 225 back.
