Talking turbo question?

Afamily I know owns a tranny shop and some kid came in with a 92 ford probe 4 cyl. turbo. It has a blown head gasket and the kid tried to fix it
and couldn't . Anyway I bought this car after the kid's daddy bought him a new car and the tranny shop just wanted it out of their lot.
My question is what maintainence do I need to do to the turbo when I do the head gasket?
I realize that this is a geo forum, but I am assuming that a turbo is a turbo, and a metro turbo probably gets pushed harder because we have to work harder for our power. any help or suggestions will be appreciated

well, if you're gonna do the headgasket, have the head re-surfaced, if not milled. If it had a blown headgasket, the head could be warped. It could also be cracked. So I would have it pressure tested too. If it's warped, have it milled down. But if you have it milled, be sure to put a thicker headgasket on it, to compensate for taking some metal off the bottom of the head. As for the turbo, see if you can get a rebuild kit for it. It could probably use new seals and bearings. If you really wanna get it goin, have the turbine blades sharpened. It'll cut down on the lag.

lol. That'll be a fun car too. They have bad headgasket probs tho. If you want a nice reliable one, that you can boost the shit out of, i'd recemmond a copper headgasket, and a stud kit. The studs will hold everything in place better, and will handle more clamping pressure. And the copper headgasket is REALLY hard to blow.

Re: turbo question?

Where can I pick a copper one up at? I am going to look at the car for the first time tonight and may get it home to start working on this weekend.

Re: turbo question?

Do they have NAPA auto parts in the Great White North? They can usually order it if they don't stock it!
