Thumbs down Lighting Trouble...already.

I just installed the after market stereo deck kit and deck for my '01 Tiburon. I thought I was pretty proficient at installing car audio, but this one threw me for a loop. I thought I would be able to hard wire the system so I didnt have to spend 50$ on the wiring harness. But there are two elusive Green wires that I have never seen ran through the stereo unit. I believe they have something to do with the parking lights and interior instrument lights. The way it is wired now (obviously the wrong way) the parking lights and instrument lights turn on as soon as the key turns to the on/ignition position. Can anyone tell me the correct wires splice these into?

Re: Lighting Trouble...already.

Wish I could, but I had to buy the harness for my HU. Anyways, I'm pretty sure the receiver uses those two wires to control illumination (i.e. your stereo becomes birght when you turn your headlights on).

Lol. Thanks for the boost of confidence Nisco. But when I asked the guy at circuit city, THREE TIMES I needed a wiring harness, I thought I was safe in splicing the wires.... Oh and I was playing with it some more today, and now when the key is in On/Ign position, same problems, except only the left front/rear parking lights come on.

:/

Re: Lighting Trouble...already.

get the wiring harness...its not 50 bucks. the green wires are for illumination on the stock player, and you are fucking with them.

Well that diagram helps somewhat, but I need something that might show where the Illumination wires would go when hardwired to an aftermarket head unit. And yes, it will run around 45-50$, 19$ for the stock wiring harness and another 25$ for the harness that connects to my model stereo.

you can get the harness for about 8 dollars shipped on ebay.

dont you have the radio harness that came with it? you only need one harness, you should already have the one that came with the radio. if not, you're not going to be able to hook that thing up.

I looked into that wiring harness on ebay and thats not gonna happen. Damn Paypal... never did have luck purchasing via Paypal. Well anyways, I am stuck with this problem until I can replace the wiring in a couple weeks.

Does anyone have a detail wiring schematic (ie:from Haynes, Chilton or shop manual) that they might be able to send me a copy of. The lighting system and stereo system would be great. I would just go get my own, but I can not find a single shop that carries manuals for the Tib, nor any open manuals online. Someone posted an online manual on another thread, but that diagram is kinda weak.

Well for the next couple weeks, I could swing 8$ like the one on ebay. Anymore than that and its gonna have to wait. Those stores wont let me use my good looks to purchase the wires, (though it probably wouldnt get me much anyways.) Gotta love Mr. Bill Collector.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info on this problem. I got my harness a week ago and it was still doing the same thing. I found the fault and everything works now.

The Illumination wire (+) running to plug S10, was shot. A little away from the point of origin, but its fixed none the less.
