Question Aftermarket Warranty Coverage Suggestions

I looking into purchasing extended warranty coverage for my 2001 Limited. It no longer is covered by GM, to old (only has 17,500miles).
There are a number of vendors. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or experience with one of these companies? I'd appreciate any input so I can make an educated decision.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Aftermarket Warranty Coverage Suggestions

There are sites on the web that give info on these companies. I believe a site like epinions.com might have a listing for them. It is a site where consumers can post experiences and opinions about products and services. I'm sure there are other similar site, maybe you could find them by a web search like Google. There was a problem with one company last year, I can't remember their name, but it was such a big story that our local news carried it and more people came forward to say that they too had problems with this particular company. They took the customers' money for the policy and when the customer had work done that was supposed to be covered, the company that did the work could not get reimbursed by the company that issued the policy. This is a matter where I would definitely scrutinize each company and look at their past performance, and any problems that they may have had. Another good source could be your local Better Business Bureau, for info on these type of companies.

Re: Aftermarket Warranty Coverage Suggestions

The best extended warranty for the owner is GMPP which is own by GM and it will cover everthing that GM's new car warranty covers.

The things I would look out for is what these companies don't cover. Alot will not cover leaks, any rubber hoses. Some will want junk yard parts installed instead of new parts. Also ask the shop where you take your car on what warrantys they will honor. Some shops will not honor warranties sold elsewhere. I know any warranty that does not pay the dealer I work at with a credit card will not get honored. Go to your selling dealer ask them what extended warranty they offer.

Re: Aftermarket Warranty Coverage Suggestions

I'll second that advise since I went through axactly what he's saying.I had an issue with my trans and the trans shop called the warranty co and explained what neede to be done and they told him not to dissasemble it (33,000 miles) they would supply a used trans to replace it.I asked why would you want to replace a trans with that many mileles with a junk yard trans which might have 150,000 miles on it? they said it was there option.
