Misfire on cylinder xx

I recently had my codes pulled as my check engine light is on on my sons 98 Explorer 4.0 (I will NEVER EVER buy another Explorer).

There were 3 or 4 different codes of:

Misfire cylinder 2
Misfire cylinder 3

Is this most likely wires and/or plugs?

I also had an IAC malfunction code, but I removed the IAC and it looks brand new, plus was clean as a whistle.

In the 9 months we`ve had this lemon,I`ve put $1800 into a timing chain,$500 into a 4WD selector motor,$325 into suspension (not including new shocks).I`m at the point where I`m trading it in,but I cant with all these bad codes.

The Engine does the typical runs high rpm then low rpm until it warms up,then it idles fine.Is there a test for the IAC to see if its actualy that,or is the code enough?

Sounds to me like it is the IAC going bad. I believe you can clean it with throttle body cleaner but I could be wrong. As for the misfires, when was the last time it was tuned up? Seems like you have had a lot of problems with that thing. It must have high miles because that seems like a lot of stuff to go wrong. The IAC may be causing your other problems so I would attack that first. It makes the Engine run wrong thus telling the computer things are wrong that might actually not be. good Luck with trading it in. Personally I'm a Chevy guy that happens to own a Ford. I have been pretty fortunate with my Explorer in the 3+ years I have owned it. Good Luck
