Question ECU and VTECH control Myth

Guys, sorry about this question but I had to ask it. there is a lot of things going on, and I just want to make sure I'm not fallin for other people crap. Is it true that if you get a VTECH controler, you can change the time that takes the VTECH to open, dont matter what ECU you are using? I mean, a LS/TECH (wiht a GSR head) will need a GSR ECU to work good, but I heard that you could take any VTECH ECU and set it up to open at any rpms that you want by using the control and it will work just fine.

Please let me know..... Lest finish this Myth once and for all!!!!!

True. There are chips available, as well as stuff like the Apexi V-AFC. It's really only useful when you've got cams and get it tuned, so you're actually making power by changing the RPM in which vtec engages.

Normally it engages at 5500rpms and my D16 doesn't rev a whole lot more than 6500 so that would be pointless. Anyway, my Civic had some weird ass chip on it when i bought it and the guy had done work to it, but i didn't ask as to what kind of work and how much, but the VTEC on my Civic engages at 2500rpm at 3/4 or greater throttle. If you ease the car up, VTEC will engage at 5000 rpm. It only engages w/ 3/4 or greater throttle.

Most people have said that it is bad on the car, but i think it is sweet because it makes it fast off the line. And i still manage to get about 24 mpg in town, so it doesn't kill the gas mileage either.

Re: ECU and VTECH control Myth

just because you activate vtec earlier, doesnt mean its making more power. if you activate it too early, you will lose power.

so whoever said it makes it faster, doesnt really know what they are talking aobut

Lowering the vtec point to 2500 rpms is stupid and it will not give you more power off the line. The point of vtec in the first place is to try to give you the best of both worlds, good low end torque, while still giving you good top end power. I would be willing to garuntee that if you lower your vtec that low you will see much slower 1/4 mile times
