Ok, just got this car and my boyfriend got in it to drive it home. Got about 2 blocks and it just died. We pulled over and let it sit while we went to Autozone to test the coil. All good there. So we get back and put coil back on and car starts up just fine again. We get going again and get about 3 miles from the house and it dies again. Let it sit for about a minute and it starts back up and gets us home. ( I was following in the Dodge
) Does anyone have any idea what would cause this. Since we got it home, it will sometimes run and die, and sometimes won't do it. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciative. Thanks, Dawn |

Re: 1988 Grand Marquis Issue

Sounds silly but check all connectors and vacuum lines, change all fliters, check fuel pressure, is the pcv opperating O K? if these are good, check the TFI ( thin film ignition )inside the distributor. Please note Fords are VERY sensitive to everything you say!!!

When it dies, it loses all fire going to the plugs.

Re: 1988 Grand Marquis Issue
It could be the "Hall Effect Sensor" in the distributor. The 5.0 motor is famous for it, and with a vehicle that old it may be the problem. The distributor has to come out for the job, so if you're not up to that it will be 3 or 400 dollars I think.
