tcc solenoid???

Hi everyone...awhile ago i posted about my sisters 86 cavy stalling. It would drive fine and then once it got warmed up bam...stalls. Then it would start up again and keep stalling as soon as it is put into gear. Now heres the thing...i fgiured it was the tcc solenoid as did everyone else who posted...so i unplugged the thing, but the problem is still there. Now she went and took it into Midas and they say its because she needs all 3 of here motor mounts changed and this will fix the problem. Now my question is...is this even a viable possibility. I dont understand how changing the mounts would stop it from stalling when put into gear...especially seeing as it only stalls when the enigine is hot. I hope someone out there can shed some light on this for me....

Re: tcc solenoid???

um well if all three mounts are messed up then it would move when it goes into gear and might fuck something up

Re: Re: tcc solenoid???

All that could have happened is that the mounts could be fooked and the tranny could have dropped and be putting pressure on a driveshaft. Personally unless this is the case,(you'd hear some Horribles sounds if so!) I doubt it's the problem. The TCC problem also usually prevents the motor starting for a while after it has stalled. I would say it was a trns issue if it's stalling as soon as it hits gear, unless, Does it run like it has no power when it iIS running?! Have you changed anything like the fuel filter, plugs & leads etc?

Re: tcc solenoid???

ya i thought it was a tranny issue too. It runs great when it does run, and i havent changed much for her, just the water pump and a tune up. And as far as the mounts go im pretty sure i would notice some noise or shaking or something all the time, but nothing like that is there. The only other thing i noticed is that when it is driving, there is a clunk sound whenever it gears down from 2nd to 1st.

Re: tcc solenoid???

try the mounts it probably needs new ones anyway. i mean it probably wont do anything for the stalling. but if you want to save money then change them yourself. if it works then great if it dosnt your not out anything except an afternoon and a couple of bucks.

Re: tcc solenoid???

Had the same problem here. I was told that there is a piece of plastic in the steering column that when it doesn't line up properly, it will trigger a security switch. Drive it a bit, stalls. Drive some more, stalls... gotta wait about 10 minutes for it to reset right?

Re: tcc solenoid???

ya once it gets warm after like 30 min of driving it stalls, and will keep stalling when you start it up again, but if you wait awhile like 10 min or so then it wont stall for a bit but eventually it starts again

Re: tcc solenoid???

yup i had the same thing happen on my old 95 cavy. The tcc solenoid went out, exact same problem your describing. Car would run fine when cold, then after 20-30 mins of driving it would stall out, had a hard time shifting gears. Once it stalled and i put it in park, it would start back up fine, as soon as i put it in drive it would stall out. My mechanic who i trust very much, says that it gets a short and overheats. Thats why it works fine when its cold, but as soon as it gets hot, it overheats and wont change gears. Cost about 800 bucks to get it fixed. . .

Re: tcc solenoid???

As this happen when hot it's not the IAC valve. This is for cold running only

Re: tcc solenoid???

wonderin if you could tell me exactly what your mechanic fixed so i could try to get at it myself. This thing is just a beater and she only paid like 400 for it to begin with so for 800...isnt worth the trouble

Re: tcc solenoid???

In that case don't waste your money on trying to repair it. Unplugging the TCC solenoid will only slightly increase gas consumption. So unplug it, and don't worry about it. I've had mine unplugged for about a year now without any related problems.
