Unhappy 96 Grand Am Side Mirror fix

Hi. I have searched this forum for the answer but couldn't find a case just like mine...

A neighbor kid knocked my drivers side mirror off with a soccer ball. Two pieces came off: the mirror itself and the plastic part that holds the mirror onto the part that is attached to the door. The mirror didn't break and the plastic thing the mirror fits in also looks intact but both these pieces are separated from the big black part that attaches to the door.

Does anyone know if this is just a matter of clipping it back on (many have tried this and not been able to attach it) or does the whole thing need to be taken apart or replaced? It is manually adjusted, not power. If someone could tell me how to get the plastic part back on, what type of glue would I use to attach the mirror?

Thanks for any thoughts you may have.
Nancy

Unhappy Side mirrors

Thanks for the welcome and the reply, John.

this photo of a car shows two "black things", one on either side. I mean the black casing that holds the mirror. Not sure what the exact name would be.

I am trying to figure out if the part that fell out can be snapped back on (it doesn't look like it is broken) or if I have to have the whole thing replaced. The mirror and a plastic piece that held it in place are what fell out. Neither are broken. Hope that makes more sense.

Thanks.

Re: 96 Grand Am Side Mirror fix

Since I don't think I can give a answer unless seeing the actual parts and the condition they were in my only suggestion left to give is get a new mirror with the same body color and bolt it up. here is a national(+Canada) junkyard search engine www.car-parts.com . Good Luck

John

Re: 96 Grand Am Side Mirror fix

Chances are that if the mirror and plastic piece were knocked out even if you could get them back in place they may not stay, I had a simular incident with my Montana but the mirror broke and had to be replaced. The Montana has power mirrors and since the origimal housing was intact I just put the new mirror in place now the mirror will not hold it's setting. You may want to take FormulaLt1's advice and pick one up at his suggested site or a junk yard you will end up with a solid set up.
