Re: ect
It changes the shift points for the automatic transmission. The Normal position is best for gas mileage. The Power position delays the upshifts and gives better power to the wheels for driving in hills and such.

Re: ect
It also changes how hard the clutches engauge when the tranny shifts. I sugest, unless you have granny in the car, keep it in pwr. Harder clutch engaugement means less slipping, less slipping means less ware on the trans clutches and fluid.

I get this infromation from Toyotas technical information system, TIS for short, however only avalible for veiwing to toyota techs, this web based information site is full of all kinds of this type of information that you wouldn't be able to get anywhere elce exept from the maker of the product. Also, if you get to test drive a car with ECT capabilties, hammer the throtle through the first 2 shift points when in normal mode, then try it in power. With the gas all the way to the floor it will rev out the gears all the way (unless your shift down cable is broken or not adjusted) even in normal mode, BUT you will notice it lets trans slip more. This is more so true in the newer cars than the older ones dew to trans and computer upgrades. Regardless I'll stop rambleing now. |
