Altima 94 - noise in heater

Hi,
I recently bought a 94 Altima GXE , there is a clicking noise from all of the heater settings. Only one which blows air on face and feet does not give the noise, all other choices give a clicking noise, what could this be? Though the heater and defogger etc. are working fine..... any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Uzee

Re: Altima 94 - noise in heater

Hi,

I have a 93 and it does the same thing. I've had it for about 6 months and haven't had any problems with the heat/air so far, and with the weather around here, I'm constantly switching between the two.

If you find out what the problem is, please let me know. The lady I bought the car from said that it just does that and every so often you will have to replace a part that cost about $15 from the dealership (like that tells me anything). Wish I knew more about it though. Regardless, I don't think it's much to worry about....

I've got this same problem in my '93 GXE. It's incredibly annoying . Any one know what's going on?

Re: Altima 94 - noise in heater

I've had this noise on my 97 Altima too. The noise happens when you slide the temperature guage all the way to cold or all the way to hot. There is a baffle that controls the air flow under the console by your feet. When the baffle is set to open all the way or close all the way, there is a gear that contols the bafle skips and makes the ticking noise. If I keep the temperature just a touch above the coldest setting or a touch below the hottest setting, I don't get the ticking noise

If you still hear the ticking noise, you have to reach down where the baffle is (underneath center console, near feet-look from passenger side of car) and help the baffle open with your fingers. If you change the temperature setting and start to hear the ticking noise, it will help find it quicker. Once you get the ticking to stop, then avoid setting the temperature setting all the way cold and all the way hot.
