Exclamation engine swap

Hi guys, i own a mk2 driver with 5 gear manual gearbox and would like any advice if it is possible to mate a passat engine to the box, will i face any problems, or what other engine would mate up.
the engine will be housed in its own subframe, detachable from the shell, carrying the shocks ect, a bit like the E type jag. any advice would be a great help

Re: engine swap

To be honest, I'm not too mechanically inclined.

Also, what engine does your mk2 come stock with? You said 'driver' so I assume you're in the UK or somewhere else, so I'm not sure what other engines are availible ... but in the USA the same 16V 2.0 engine availible in some MK2 GTIs and Jetta GLIs was availible later in the B3 Passat, so that would be a good option and likely swap quite easily.

Good luck!

Re: engine swap

it should but depends on the year. I have a Passat 2.0 16V in my car and I used my old 88 16V's tranny and I kept my CIS harness w/o cutting, plugged right up.

well, should you have the 020 gearbox, any motor up to '00 is a direct bolt on. What I do not know though is your flywheel bolts on the crank. I have done the opposite thing, I kept the '89 1.8l 16v engine and installed a Passat '98 gearbox, so I believe that it should work the other way round too. Anyway, if you give me the code of your gearbox and the engines you are thinking of I will be able to be more specific and accurate.
