Real brushed aluminum dash kit

I just got a real aluminum dash kit that i ordered - have to say i'm impressed - quality is excellent. I used to have carbon fiber, but i think the aluminum looks better. I ordered it from www.woodtrim.com it was on sale for $219 free s&h. This isn;t the fake epoxy metal - this is the real stuff. If your interested check it out.

I want the same thing ..but got scared when they talked about pre bending the thing to fit perfect. Please please take note of everything you do ...and let us know how you make out.

thanks

I'm gonna put it in tomorrow - but, i know what your talking about. The pieces themselves are stiff metal, but, the key is to bend them around something first - like a jar or other cylindrical object. i'll definitely let you know what i do tomorrow.

I installed the kit this morning, it looks great!
If you've done a wood/carbon fiber one before it's a little bit tougher but, not impossible.

Here are some tips:
- give yourself plenty of time - at least a few hours.
- be patient, check and double check your fittings.
- don't overbend the metal - the best way i found is to gradually curve the metal so that there aren't any sharp bend marks.
- do it during the summer/ hot weather - this helps the secure the bonding.

Tough spots on the P11:
- the driver's upper vent curves downward sharply, make sure u don't overbend in this area.
- just below the tape deck - the dash curves down, be careful when bending the aluminum around this spot.
- the speedo piece - make sure you bend at the right spots to match the curves around the speedo.

Personally i think it looks better than the carbon fiber i had before - especially against a jet black interior.

I order the real brushed aluminum kit that you got Mythos yesterday. I don't have any experience putting in kit trims, do you suggest I take it to a professional place or try by myself? I read the instructions and everything and I think I may be able to do it, but just to be safe. Thanks!

john, i put in my old carbon fiber one myself, and it wasn't too bad - but this one is a little tougher. The thing is the carbonfiber/wood kits bend easily when heated - but the aluminum ones are metal so you have to pre-bend them, this is the toughest part cuz if you bend them too much they'll leave permanent marks in the metal. Just make sure that you bend them gradually (end to end or top to bottom) instead of in the middle, contour them around the dash- this is key, be patient and pre-fit everything carefully - take your time. I listed the toughest areas of the dash on my above post.

As far as professional installers go - make sure you go to one that has some experience in installing these kits. Because some of them don't, so your probably better off on your own. If you want try your infiniti dealership - they put tons of wood kits in the g20's so they know what they're doing, they may or may not do it, but, it's worth a shot.

I'm pretty finicky about fine details. These are my concerns.

How do the edges look, are they feathered or rounded, does it blend well with the original dash at the edges. I don't want it to appear too much like a stick on even though it is. Give me some aesthetic views if you can.

Thanks Mythos.

Dprotech, the edges are slightly rounded. it blends in pretty well, but, it is a stick on type kit - no avoiding that. One thing i noticed is that the metal is thinner than wood/carbon fiber so it sticks out less on the dash. The metal itself feels like good quality and looks nice. I'd say fitment is 99% accurate - with products like this it's hard to be 100%. It'll take me a while to post up some pics but, check out this link

http://www.woodtrim.com/kits/2014.jpg

It's on a 95 maxima, the closeup gives u an idea of the edges and the closeup also shows you what the metal looks like in some detail.

So what I gather redvalkrie from that last post is... "Dprotech, I have a digital camera so why don't you go buy one too and get us some pics." More or less? LOL
