Hello
I have a 2001 GMC Yukon XL. Today I went to Jiffy Lube to get an oil change, and then a car wash. Soon after I noticed that it was in Auto 4WD. I tried to get out of it, but none of the other buttons would engage. I put it in P, turned everything off for a minute, but still stuck. Anyone have any ideas what might cause this? Could JL have done somethiong wrong? Thanks for your help! Nick |

Re: Stuck in Auto 4WD, Please Help.
Hi,
things may shift easier when rolling. You may want to try the 2HI button as the first choice. This should disengage the driveshaft to the front. Does the 2HI light start blinking? If yes, does it then stop blinking because it does not shift? You should be able to do this in Drive at reasonable speed not under load. Anything happening with the indicator lights? Take care, Eggert

Hey Thanks for the reply
Since I posted, all seems back to normal, but I'm still concerned that something is indeed wrong, otherwise it wouldn't have happened in the first place. Wheather I was rolling or in Park, it would not come out of Auto 4WD. No lights on any other buttons would work. Also the Service 4WD light came on after about 15 min of driving. Like I said, all seems normal now, but I don't believe it. Nick |

Re: Stuck in Auto 4WD, Please Help.
Hi,
the short answer is: go to the dealer, let them check it. You need to have your diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) checked. May have been an electronic problem, may not. Please don't ignore it. Most diagnostics for repairs are done by the dealer putting a GMC tech II handheld computer (on ebay for $3000) on it. So my repair manual is not much help, it usually says: put the tech II on it, give this command, check that result. If you have the DTC's you can post them, I'll translate them. Still, the dealer will have to fix it... Take care, Eggert
