96 Jetta GL Fuel pump fuse blows after 5 minutes
My 1996 Jetta GL blew the fuel pump fuse. After changing the fuse and testing to make sure it was getting power, the engine would not start. We changed the fuel pump. The engine ran for 5 minutes and blew the fuel pump fuse. Any ideas?

Re: 96 Jetta GL Fuel pump fuse blows after 5 minutes
I have had the fuse box internally short out on this circuit. Unplug the wiring at the pump and check the fuel pump wires for grounding with an ohmeter. That doesn't always work, as on the one I had tested okay, but had no continuity, so I just unwired the fuse and relay from the box & hooked it up seperately.
