Lightbulb Unichip

Have you guys heard much about the Unichip? I just heard a few rumors about it being a plug and play system that will give the Gts 10 extra hp and improve fuel effeciency. It can also be removed without any trace of it ever being in the car.

Yeah, I've heard of it. You can't just "plug it up" and gain 10hp. It has to be tuned to your car.

if its a chip then you should be able to just install it and then remove it and replace it with the OEM chip that used the slot, well that is unless you need to solder it in

10hp at maybe the crank
i dont neccesarily trust chips, becuase for some of them it is made for a general setup and doesn't really give you as much gains as they claim

Correct! Most come with a basemap loaded, but like I said.. It needs to be tuned. It would be best to get a wideband o2 setup to monitor your a/f and tune accordingly. You would also need several hours of dyno time to get it tuned properly.

Just remember, it's not the peak HP number that counts the most, it's everything under the peak.

Re: Unichip

Just rememer guys, alot of people out there will try to sell you a "performance chip" when all you will get is a resister to plug into the harness where the air temp sensor plugs in. if you want to do that mod for under $1, take your temp sensor out of your air box, put it in the fridge for a few hours, take it out and quickly test the resistance across the points, take what ever that resistance is and go to Radio Shack and buy a 14 cent resistor to match.

Doing this will trick the computer into thinking colder air is comming into the intake, and will dump more fuel into the motor, only side effect is on really hot days you can cause overheating, and or detenation, both very icky things to have.

HUGE HELPFUL TIP: for people that are looking into buying these performance chips DO NOT go to ebay

there are many people on there that sell bogus chips that are just wires/glue in a small black "chip" that you plug into the ECU, they may look like chips and are cheap so people buy them, they are nothing

people look at ECU tuning and chips as something cheap to raise HP or torque, but in truth it is one of the more expensive things that you could get and it would only create a small gain in a lightly mod.ed car

for ecu tuning your best options are new stand-alone units such as the Power FC, EMS, E-manage
also piggy-backs are also an excellent choice in certain cases like using a SAFC with a wideband O2 sensor
