Post Here If You Hate Cali Smog Laws

I'm just venting, the smog laws here are a part of every tuners buying decision for parts, and performance, ie headers intakes turbos and greatlly reduces are choices if we wish to remain legal. And that sucks, limited to that CARB number. CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCE BOARD sucks ass, and our air is still bad. what about the trucks spewing the black smoke into the air and the buses, factories and other stuff. I doubt tuners are responsible for most of the smog, and yet we pay the most dearly.

i hear what you're saying, but put some blame on the companies not even trying to get a carb#. alot of the manufacturers outside of california could give a rats ass about cali's smog laws. those are the companies in it trying to make a quick buck selling shitty stuff anyway.

The funny thing is a lot of those companies that make aftermarket parts that don't meet smog requirements are located in California.

From what I've heard though, it's pretty tough to get a CARB number. There's a whole lot of BS red tape to go through.

Whiner!

You probably have no idea what a stage 3 smog alert feels like, you youngster. I don't think there's been one since the 70s. Lemme tell ya, it is not a lot of fun! :apuke: In the late '40s, a few people actually DIED from smog in LA.

Thanks to the AQMD, air polution has declined steadily for more than the last THIRTY YEARS. Heck, just eight years ago there were 23 stage 1 alerts in southern california. In 2001, there were ZERO. I do feel your frustration; but really, I'm quite happy to pay a little more for mods so that I can breathe.

Besides, most if not all the CARB standards are being accepted in every state of the union. Some are behind others, but it seems they pretty much all will come to the same conclusions.

PS> You can always do what I did - buy an old car that is smog exempt.

good point. I was just frustrated about all the red tape and the police that hardly understand the laws. Clean air is good, I just don't agree with how the laws are enforced.

I totally agree on that front!

Quote:
from the lips of Frank Zappa about his album "Joe's Garage"
The contemporary society has
gotten so complicated that you could be violating a law
without even knowing it. That's the whole idea of JOE'S
GARAGE - the criminalization of America. You are still
responsible for your actions. You can still be called a
criminal even if you didn't know that the law was there.
So, who can know? There is no one person in the United
States right now who will stand up and swear that he
understands the U.S. tax code. It's too complicated, and if
you take that on a state-by-state basis and think of the
body of law that exists on the books in every state in the
U.S., compounded by federal law, compounded by case law,
then you are totally at the mercy of a legal system that
could perhaps even have you killed for violating something
you didn't even know existed. I believe there are still
some states that have the death penalty for oral copulation
- New Jersey, North Dakota.
It's the criminalization of America. If everyone is a criminal, then the police, through selective enforcement, become the dictators of the society and democracy becomes just a facade. By asking police to enforce the smog laws, we create a whole new class of criminals overnight that can now be punished at the whim of the police. I like (and we need) vehicle smog regulations; but IMHO, they should be strictly controlled by vehicle registration, and not have anything to do with the police.
