voltage stabilizers, cool or crap?

Hello,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33574
I'm not planning on going out and buying one of these, but I'd like to know if anyone has one. Any gains? Or just another ebay scam? It seems like I've seen an MSD product like this.

Re: voltage stabilizers, cool or crap?

Scam or not? All the electronic componants on cars are made to operate on a range of voltages otherwise the manufacturers would have had to put them on already.

Would make a nice paperweight.

Re: voltage stabilizers, cool or crap?

Crack apart an old ECM whenever you get a chance. You will see some heavy linear voltage and power regulation built into it. If nothing else, the heat lost by such a device drains more power out of your system overall. Nothing is 100% efficient, not even the best switching power supplies. This loss of efficiency is usually just blown off as heat - look at that NICE black anodized heat sink body that device sits in! It's more functional as a boot warmer in winter than what it's claiming to be.
