22re engine suddenly dies

I have a 22re engine. A while back it would intermitantly not start. Now i will be going down the road and the truck will suddenly die. I've replaced the ignition coil, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, fuel pump and am still having this problem. Has anyone had this problem? any suggestions would be great!!! thanks...Clay.

Check for a loose connection @ the barrel connectors by the coil on the LF wheelwell in the engine compartment. I cannot stress enough to physicallycheck each one for a proper connection, since they have a habit of looking like they are connected when they actually are loose.

Also, did you replace the Igniter unit as well, or just the coil? I had this go out on my old 85 22R engine a few years ago. Talking to other mechanics at the time I learned that in a no-spark problem, the igniter is at fault about 90% of the time.

I had the same thing happen to my 93 22-re the toyota dealer could not find the problem. When it would die I would notice a click coming from the kick panel on the passengers. So I let the dealer know and it turned out to be the ignition relay switch. When you are driving and it dies see if you can hear a click in this area.76-cj

Re: 22re engine suddenly dies

If you have spark and it still won't run, it could be a fuel delivery problem.
