Another Camaro in the paper, got some questions.

Ok another Camaro popped up. It was originally listed as 8000 OBO but it dropped to 6500 firm, so I gave the lady a call. It's an '85 Z28, no T-Tops , with a recently put-in 350 (with a 3 year warranty on it), brand new tires, new clutch. Paint job is supposedly really good, it was redone as blue. It has a CD player, mag wheels. She isn't very car-inclined, but it she said everything is Edelbrock, so it probably has some performance parts.

The questions I have is 6500 Canadian (5184.00 US) too high? I'm not sure if any car from 1985 is worth that much. Also, she said that speedometer isn't working, how quick/cheap of a fix is this? And is there anything I can say to get the price down, typical Camaro haggling? Also, how does the car sound overall?

There are some pictures, but I can't figure out how to upload them so if anyone wants I'll send them. They are pretty bad quality though.

Thanks in advance.

man that car is going for what u can get a newer model z for here in the states. is it mint? if its like brand new with great performance parts ( find out what all edelbrock parts she got on it) it may be worth what shes asking, but ti never hurts to offer a bit lower

Yeah, I don't really want to pay that much and the only reason I will is if the car is basically perfect, since I'll get it checked out.

Anyone else have any input? I'm going to take a look at it tommorow so the sooner the better.

It depends on your personal preference. Do you like the 3rd gens better than the 4th? Some guys on the forum love their 3rd gens and I personally like the newer ones. It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks about your car as long as you like it right?

It has a manual transmission and they put a 350 in it? If it is the same manual trans that had a 305 carbed engine in front of it, then the trans is living on borrowed time. That trans wouldn't hold up to the 305 TPI's in those cars.
5K+ is waaayyy too much money. I bought a 91 Formula 350 a couple years ago for $1200..needed a fender and headlight assembly and some cleaning, but not that much money to fix it and it is 6 years newer too.

I think thats over priced. Sounds like your getting yourself into a whole pile of surprises there with the new paint and the speedometer not working?? Who knows how many kms are on the rest of the car.

Re: Another Camaro in the paper, got some questions.

it could be a good deal if everything is on the up and up. try, yourself or someone that knows cars well, to get a good look at it. try to see that the work was done well and that whoever did the work did their homework. this is one of those cars that could be a decent deal or a huge mistake, right on the fence line...

Where are you? If that's Canadian, I don't know if you're getting a good deal or not, but it sounds high. Is that chameleon paint? The car seems to be more of a show car than a daily driver or racer from what you've said and how it looks.

The picture that was posted by Lumina isn't the one I'm going to look at, I'm pretty sure it's his, not sure why he posted it...:P

The tranny comment worries me. Can the regular 305 transmission handle the 350, or it that basically just a ticking timebomb?

Wow. Apparently after 5 months of supporting me, helping me, and going with me to look at Camaros, my parents suddenly don't want me getting a V8.

That's just super, isn't it? My mom is on the phone right now about some old '86 V6 Firebird. For fucks sake.

I would put money on those being the later "WC" T5's..not the wimpy early ones found on the 84-87's. The WC can handle quite a bit more than the early ones.
