2001 Blazer Theft Deterrent Problems!

I have a 2001 chevy blazer LS. The theft deterrent system goes off by itself all the time...at all hours. Also, the dome light stays on while driving unless i push the dome over-ride button. And once and a while, the radio won't stay on after i turn off the vehicle. The only problem i really care about is the alarm. It sucks when it goes off at 2 am!! I have a feeling all these problems are related. I pulled the fuse on the horn so it wouldn't go off. I have had people tell me that i had a door latch sticking, so i sprayed the crap out of all of them with white grease and penetrating oil. NO HELP!!! Any one got any ideas??? PLEASE

If the radio shuts off as soon as the vehicle is turned off, first thing I would check is the front door switches. You have a jamb switch and also a switch in the latch assembly which causes the lights to come on when you lift the door handle. spraying the switch won't help. It's enclosed. You have to disconnect each of the four switches one at a time to determine which switch is the cause.

As for the dome light coming on, the same switch may be causing that or could be one of the rear door switches or liftglass switch.

The jamb switch is on the side of the dash and contacts the door trim panel.

The latch assembly is a difficult job, very little room and sharp metal edges. It's removed from the inside of the door after the door trim is removed. It's behind the window run channel. You will have to disconnect two wiring connectors and three rods and remove the three screws from the outside.

Re: 2001 Blazer Theft Deterrent Problems!

The content theft deterent system is handled by the Body Control Module. Since the BCM activates the horn and flashes the lights when it thinks it's being broken into, the only way to stop it would be to disconnect the door switches from the BCM. But then, the interior lights would no longer work.

Personally, I would temporally disconnect the horn and just run a pushbutton from inside the vehicle to the horn. At least that way the BCM would think that it's doing it's job, but the horn won't blow.
