Question broke a valve can i use an si head?

i have an 88 dx for a work car and one of the valves broke
can i just throw on an 88 si head that i have sitting in my garage and not have to mess with the dx head i would still be keeping the dual point injection and my dx dizzy just swap the full head cam and all?
will this change compression ratio or horse power?

Re: broke a valve can i use an si head?

first things first, how did u brake a valve? unless if was w/ the motor shut off and never turned over after it was borken u'r ok, but if it happened while it was running, forget it. the piston is shot too, and the cylinder wall might be scratched to hell also. better idea would be a si block to go w/ the si head. or at least another block other than ur's.

the head will bolt on fine. You will need to get a timing belt for a 88-91 1.6L sohc non-vtec CRX si or 90-91 Honda Civic EX

Re: broke a valve can i use an si head?

the motor still ran i drove it home on 3 cylinders. i did a compression test and got 30psi on the bad one took the head off and there was a chip out of the valve. the piston looks fine the wall looks fine not a single scrach. the pice was sitting on top of the piston. i dont know how it didnt hurt anything.
why would i have to use a si timming belt is it the cam gear can i just switch them i dont want to but any money into this car would i just be better off putting the si valve in the dx head?

the belts are all the same, just slap it on there, grab a beer and call it a day!

anyone who wants to aruge the fact that there not the same then go discuss it with an auto parts store, because at work the listing is the same for the belt, and same with napa

We did it with our dx.. put an si on top.. used same bolts and BELT!!! all we did is replace head gasket. Took us 45 minutes.
