okay, I've been working on a 76 Camaro RS, with a 350 engine. its a new project because the car hasn't been touched in years. The problem is, I've replaced the positive battery cable, all the plugs and wires, and it's a new battery. When you get in, the interior lights come on, and all the buzzing starts. Of course buckling the seat belt and stuff fixes that. I do EXACTLY as the manual says. At the "on" position, the lights in the dash come on, red. As soon as I turn the key to ignition, the engine clicks as if the starter began to turn, then dies. The car looses power completely after that. To regain power I can unhook the battery and hook it back up. It was doing the same thing before I replaced the battery cable as well. I just need help one what would most likely be wrong with it.

Sounds like the starter is shorted directly to ground when switched to the crank position. Remove it and have it tested.
