Hello everyone... Im new to this website and could really use some help with my 2000 Grand Am. The problem I have is when I get out of the car and close the door it acts as if the door is still open. If I have the key in the ignition it will chime at me and the interior lights stay on for about a half hour until they automatically shut off. If I take the key out of the ignition it only stops the chime, it doesn't affect the light at all. I have checked the light adjustment that is located on the dash and that seems to be alright. This all of a sudden started happening and I was looking for the sensor or whatever causes the car to think the door is open. I can't seem to find the sensor anywhere to even check it out. I see the sensors for the back doors but there is nothing obvious for the front doors... Can someone help me locate this piece so I can at least check it out??

Re: 2000 Grand Am Interior Lights Won't Shut Off - Where's The Door Sensor??
Well, have you checked the switch at the interior light itself (there is an off/door/on switch in the housing for the interior light)? It allows you to select if the dome light stays off all the time, or comes on when the doors are opened or stays on all the time. If it is in the "door" position and the light still stays on, you can find the switch that tells the light the drivers door is open as part of the door latch. There is no "push button" door switch for the front doors, only the rear ones as you've noticed. The fron doors have the switch in the door latches inside the doors. HTH

Thanks. I made sure the interior light switch was set to "door" so that isnt the problem. I will have to take a closer look at the door latch to see if theres something wrong with it. I have no idea what the piece looks like, do you know if its something that would need to be oiled up cleaned, rewired or how could it be fixed? Thanks again!!

Re: 2000 Grand Am Interior Lights Won't Shut Off - Where's The Door Sensor??
My 2001 do the samething, it is the interior light off/door/on switch. For some reason is grounded itself. So I just keep it off until I purchase another one.
