20th Anniversary Model Gen 5.
Hi all,
I have a 20th anniversary generation 5 celica, there is a switch on the dash that says 4ws sport and normal, and revs 2ws. What is the difference between sport and normal four wheel steering. Also im guessing revs 2ws is 2 wheel steering when in reverse, what is the purpose of this ? Cheers for any help. Luke |

Re: 20th Anniversary Model Gen 5.
My best guess would be that the sport 4WS turns the rear wheels less than the normal 4WS setting, so when racing at high speeds it won't want to fishtail, and the normal turns it more so at lower speeds turns are easier on the suspension/driver.
As for the reverse 2WS, my guess would be the 4WS would make the turning radius in reverse increased...so you turn it off for a tighter turning radius. Mind you these are guesses. |

thanks for the answers,
I had always been currious as to these buttons. Also the pre 92 honda preludes, dissengage the 4ws when speed is greater than 50kph, do the celicas do this ? Any ideas ? Luke |

Re: 20th Anniversary Model Gen 5.
4ws works as follows, under a certain speed the rear wheels turn opposit the fronts to turn the car tighter, over a certain speed they turn with the front tires so instead of turning when you change lanes on the highway its almost like your just shifting over.
Just remember the rear wheels will never turn as much as the front whees so you can still controll the car. |

oh i get it now it reminds me of the HICAS that nissan uses on certain cars
there are hydraulics connected to the rear wheels that activate that turn slightly, not that much but enough that you will feel the difference i guess that toyota lets you turn it on and off, I know that with nissan the system activates only at a certain speed. |
