Question 97 Dakota electrical problem

I was in the process of replacing the stereo with a newer model. After wiring the quick connects per the manufacturers instuctions, there was no sound. I removed the radio, checked my wiring for accuracy and connected it again. Now, I have no power to the radio connections. I have also lost power to the interior lighting, map lights, courtesy lights, and the cargo lights.
I have checked & rechecked all the fuses & relays. All check out fine.
I'm running out of ideas on where to look. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 97 Dakota electrical problem

Did you all make the wire connections yourselves? Chances are, when you were making the ground connection, on most aftermarket wiring harnesses for stereos, there's not connection for the ground, sometimes you have to find a good body ground and run it from there. If not, you could run into the problems that you all are running into; happened to me w/ my '85 Ford, I put a Sony Xplod CD/MP3 player and didn't wire it up correctly, every time I hit the light switch, it'd blow a 15 amp fuse that controlled the instrument light circuit. Eventually, it didn't blow the fuse and blew something else, never did figure out what happened, just heads up for you guys.

After taking a day or two away from the problem, I went back and started over.
The problem was twofold. The I.O.D fuse was blown, and the wiring instructions that came with the harness were wrong. My truck has the Infinity stereo system and the instructions made no mention of the fact that the wiring for the Infinity system is slightly different. I found the info that I needed at www.scosche.com. Problem solved! Thanks for the replies. This is a great forum for auto enthusiast.

Hey, I am having the same problem on my 92 Dakota as your original. No radio power and no dome light. But it was wired fine cause it worked for a couple weeks. Just curious, what is the I.O.D. fuse.

I have the same problem. Can you tell me where this fuse is located and if it is in the fuse block, what number it is.

Never mind all. Found it in the fuse box under the hood. It is the 5 amp one. It did not look black like it was blown, but it was and that was the problem. Hope this helps someone else that has the same problem.
