97 rodeo check trans & check engine lights
I just bought a 97 Rodeo - V6 automatic. 106K miles. Runs great, but ocassionally the check engine light comes on, and at same time the check trans light flashes. Mechanic checked - no problems (not sure what code came up), but then both lights will go out at same time. Has happened twice - several weeks between occurances. According to manual, check trans light requires manually shifting of auto trans - but this is not the case with mine. Any ideas?

Re: 97 rodeo check trans & check engine lights
I think we would need the code.
When was the last time you checked the fluid level? Or changed the fluid? -Ryan

Re: 97 rodeo check trans & check engine lights
When I buy something used and with that kind of mileage, I would always change the fluids and filters...usually oil, trans, diff, fuel filters. The last time a check trans light went on, I added some Lucas trans additive and its back to normal again...reset the ECU....

Re: 97 rodeo check trans & check engine lights
Call the dealership and give them your vin and ask them if any recalls are open. There was a recall for voltage regulators. They would overcharge and it would cause a check trans light.Try to look at the voltage gauge next time it happens.Carl
