Foglight fix

It seems like i read on here or on another forum that some of the bimmers have problems with the fog light wiring because the plus into the fog lights are on the bottom. Such was the case with my '89 525i. I just bought this car a little over a month ago and discovered the fog light wires stuffed up inside the bottom of the car without the plugs for the lights. A tester proved that there was hot to the yellow wire so I just needed to hook the wires up.

To prevent further problems, I removed each fog lamp assembly from underneath the car by taking out the four screws, then turned the assembly upside down when replacing it so that the connecting plus slips in on top. I purchased two female 'GM Pack' connectors, the black two-wire connectors with a green accordian style boot on them, to replace the original BMW plugs. I also purchased the 18-20 gauge barrels that the wires hook to and fit insode this fitting. I had to expand these slightly to fit on the wiring terminals (I gently pushed them onto one of the male prongs on the fog lamp assembly with a pair of pliers) as they are a few thousandths too small. I wired everything up and voila! no more fog ligght warning on the dash and the fog lights work wonderfully. The GM plug is a little to long for the shallow depth of the fog lamp and this could be easily fixed with a dremel (or a trip to a good auto recycler for the BMW parts).

Anyway, I don't expect to have any more wiring problems with my fog lamps. The GM connectors and connections were less than $20 at the parts store. Hope this helps someone else that has similar problems.
