2003 Tauus heater/ac fan only works on high
Looking for help with 2003 Taurus sedan - heater/ac fan only works
on high. I saw on this forum that a guy with 1999 was having same problem, fix was a resister behind glove box. Does the 2003 have same problems as 1999, or should I start elsewhere. Thanks. |

Re: 2003 Tauus heater/ac fan only works on high
Most all newer cars have blower motors with separate resistor packs/assemblies. Buy one and install it, that will most likely cure the problem. Otherwise it could only be the blower motor, which is highly unlikely

Taurus 2003 heater/ac fan only works on high
I am having the exact same problem.
Most likely it is a bad resistor. This may be due to the cowl leaking water into the blower motor case. See http://www.lemonlawclaims.com/Ford%2...owl%20leak.htm and http://warnerrobert.com/ubb/ultimate...;f=15;t=000240 If you are in the US you may be able to get this fixed at no cost due to the silent recall. I am in trouble though, since I took my Taurus to Europe. |

Thank you for the responses!
After some investigation, I have come to same conclusion. A two
year old Ford, with a musty smell, and ac/heater switch not working is probably the "leaking cowl syndrome". I just called local Ford Dealer and made an appointment. Wish me luck. I'll post an update after visit with Ford. |

Thank all for responses, especially the person with Taurus in
Europe. The problem was ac/heater switch only working on high. I was lucky, all was covered under warranty using TSB-03-15-6. My car is only two years old with 28,000 miles. The local Ford service representative was completely aware of problem, stated almost all Taurus vehicles from 2001 to 2003 had the problem with cowl leak. Ford dealer made the following changes/repairs: 1) new resistor assembly 2) new blower motor 3) new cowl sid assembly 4) weatherstripping 5) silicon sealant 6) Removed interior carpet/dried and treated 7) Car smells like charcoal now - part of treatment. Two days later and everything normal. Please note the the service rep. also made a "big deal" out of flushing cooling system at 30,000 miles or two years ( make sure heater core is flushed ), if not done, coolant in heater core turns to sludge and core must be replaced. Thanks again for the help. |
