How fast does a Skyline go?

Just wondering what the fastest an AF member has squeezed out of their Skyline.

I managed 177mph 2 days ago. It doesn't seem to pull to well up there and didnt seem like it had much left. (and i lost my bottle! )

Oh and the screaming noise at 7000rpm made me feel sorry for it.

stock or not stock

It has somewhere around 425-450bhp ish.

And of course no speed limiter.

I would like to think that it might hit 185mph, but It really didnt have that much grunt left up at that speed (Still enough to get rid of most normal 911's though!) ;-)

Haha I bet, have you run a 400m with your current setup?

Speed

I've done 180mph in my R34 (running about 500bhp), it was uphill though. This was measured on my handheld GPS (Garmin eTrex).

I am aiming to reach a GPS verified 200mph when my car gets back from its latest upgrades.

Several UK owners have seen over 200mph on the speedo, but what that is in reality will vary from car to car, hence why I use GPS, speedos can be out by quite a way at speeds approaching 200mph.

Aerodynamics for the GTR are crap though, which is why a new 911 does 177mph with 320mph, a GTR needs over 100bhp more to hit the same speed.

I seem to rember a discussion a while back and most agreed that 165-170 was the fastest any one had pushed the stock gearbox, could be wrong though. Any one out there with stock ratios seen faster?

Factory gearing and at 8,500 rpm should put you on or about 185mph. One of the race cars here has different gearing and a 6 speed box and rev'ed out at 315kph or 195mph. That car has dynoed at 1028 hp at the engine. It is more set up for drag racing though the new car they are doing for circut work will be geared to 370kph on the larger tracks but most of the smaller one will remain around the 285kph mark.

Wow, thats quite fast on a factory gear box I had no idea the stock gearing was that high.

Gearing

I was under 8000rpm at a GPS verified 180mph in 6th gear.

The R33 is geared slightly lower though.

R34 Gearing is as follows:

0.793 (6th gear)
3.545 (final drive ratio)
811 (revs per mile of tyre size)
8000 (revs/min)

3.50 (miles/min)
210.53 (miles/hr)

R33 Same descriptions

0.752 (5th gear)
4.111 (final drive)
811 (revs/mile)
8000 (revs)

3.19 (miles/min)
191.44 (miles/hr)

ie a stock R34 will reach 210mph at 8000rpm and an R33 191mph at 8000rpm. This excludes effects of tyre growth at speed and variation of tyre diamater due to make and tread depth. Of course many cars rev higher than 8000rpm allowing a higher theoretical top gearing speed.

Of course top speed is limited by power and not gearing in most GTRs.
