95 Talon Staring Problems

First off I'm new here so let me say hello to everyone.....hello. So here's my problem, I went to start my 95 Talon this morning and got nothing. The only noise the car is making is one click which sounds like the starter and a loud buzzing noise under the passenger side of the car. And the light in the car also come on, if thats any help. Has anyone encountered a problem like this before with the car not starting a just making a buzzing sound. Also do you think there might be somthing fried under the dash and thats what's making that buzzing noise? Thanks for any help anyone can give me, also I'm looking forward to this being my new home for car help.

Re: 95 Talon Staring Problems

It could be a couple of things. What you are hearing is the starter (the click and buzz). There are 2 reasons this will happen.

1. You don't have enough juice (battery power) to turn everything over. And don't think that because all of the lights come on that you have enough power. Grab another car and jump start it (let it sit for a couple of minutes before you turn the key, so it has time to build up some cranking power)

2.) Your starter is shot. It might have a "flat spot" in it. This can sometimes be resolved by wacking it with a hammer while you turn over the key.....really, I'm being serious.

In either case, I would try jumping it (because it is the easiest thing to do )

Let us know what you find

EDIT: You will also want to check the battery terminal connections for corrosion (clean them if needed). A can of pepsi is the best for the cleaning.

Re: 95 Talon Staring Problems

I had this problem before and it ended up being the starter selenoid.. Also does your car have keyless entry or a security system. Sometimes if my alarm is turned on and i dont notice I go to turn on the key and only get a buzzing sound, then if i deacticate it it starts. Something else you might want to try is turn your key to the on position then hot jump your car from under the hood using a wire ( do this by bridging a wire between the 2 bars sticking out of your starter selenoid ) If you're not sure what this is u can see a pic of one here.

You could also have a low charge in your batter, you could either try jumping it or do it the safe way and put a battery charger on it and see how many volts its getting.

Re: 95 Talon Staring Problems

I've seen a low battery or bad terminal connections cause this. The click is the solenoid actuating, there is not enough power to turn the start motor, and the voltage drop causes a relay under the dash to flip out. My 95 GSX does ths all the time when I kill the battery running both radiator fans in the staging lanes...

Re: 95 Talon Staring Problems

Good to hear it is working...
As for body kits check out the VFAQ sticky at the top of the Eclipse/Talon/Laser forum.
