Question No speedometer

The speedometer doesn't work on my father-in-law's '93. So I went for a ride with him and it isn't shifting either. (He didn't tell me that before we left, he's kind of a car idiot, moreso than me!!) Just have second and reverse. OK, so I thought it could be a speed sensor, but after reading some threads, people say that the MIL light would be lit also. Thing is, it isn't. Only the speedometer doesn't work, and the trans is in "safe-mode." Am I right in still thinking it is the speed sensor?

Have a good one!!

Dan

Re: No speedometer

if the speedometer isn't working, the output speed sensor could be the culprit or you might even have a faulty instrument cluster. To check for sure if there's a check engine light for the speedometer, turn your ignition key on/off 3xs ending in the on position. The check engine light will flash a number of times. For example, if it flashes twice, pauses then flashes another 4xs, that's a code 24. In your case, you should have a code 15.

Re: No speedometer

Thanks. When I did it last night I only got a code 33, which is for the AC. Oh well, he swapped cars with his wife for now, and I guess he's going to put it in the shop.

Have a good one!!
