I raced a camaro today...

and totally smoked him. It wasn't even really a race. We lined up (it was wet/misting out) and got ready. His was an auto, and of course mine is a 5 spd. Anyways....we lined up, revved up, and took off. I wasn't able to see this, but the guys in the camaro said that my front tires lifted off of the ground for a split second when I dumped the clutch. They said it was the coolest thing they've ever seen. about .5 seconds after I dumped the clutch, it was all over, I was a car length ahead of him after 1st, about 12 after 2nd, and after 3rd you couldn't even see him behind me. (it was a bit foggy, which helped, but he was WAYYYYY far behind). I didn't let up at all until the road ened, which is about 1 mile long. By the time I got to .8 mile, I was going 130, so I shut her down and coasted to the stop sign. We literally waited about 45 seconds before they showed up. It was awesome. I totally regret leaving my camcorder at home this weekend.

They said that they have a friend with a Z24 Cavalier 6 speed that will race me, and they said (and I quote) "it will be a close race". Yeah, ok whatever, I'll bring my camcorder next time.

Re: I raced a camaro today...

It happens all the time with these cars. Most people wouldnt beleive a AWD 3800 lb car would squat like that LOL. Theres a really good pic on 3si somewhere of a car lifting the fronts.

on 3si, AdamVR4's avatar is a great shot of his car at the track lifting up upon launch.

Re: I raced a camaro today...

if the LS1 has a bad driver the vr4 would win cause i beat a friend in his 01 trans am by 2 cars in a 1/5 of a mile he couldnt believe it and if you now how to drive the vr4 you will probably win

Re: I raced a camaro today...

If all is equal the LS1 all the way...but of course if you throw a bad driver in there the other person will win. Ive seen video's a of a Civic beating a Lamborghini Diablo b/c of a bad driver.

Z24 Cavalier? What are you racing against 16 yr old school girls? Why would anyone WANT to race a Cavalier....let alone against a VR4?

Re: I raced a camaro today...

Hey Getaway, in the videos in your signature, are you shifting at redline? I took a 1st gen (forgot what year) up to 80 in 2nd, I couldn’t go any faster (test drive and never took it on the freeway) but from what know 3rd gear goes all the way to 120. It looks like you hit 3rd at 60 though, and 4th at 90.

Re: I raced a camaro today...

it was a long time ago, I'm not sure. I know I didn't go to redline on the shifts.

Re: I raced a camaro today...

LS1s are generally supposed to be a bit faster than the vr4 in the quarter...we will get ahead early, they will catch up and walk us top end.

I've raced quite a few, and have beaten some, and have lost to some...so it all depends on the drivers. Also remember, few LS1s stay stock and they take to mods like kids take to candy. So if you just pick one randomly on the street, chances are you might take him light to light, but he will walk you on the highway.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
