Srt4 / Gti 1.8t

hey everyone, ive been reading up a lot on the Srt4's and VW GTI 1.8t's.
I know the srt4 has a better 0-60 time then the 1.8t, but the vw has a nicer interior and decent reputation for reliability [from what i've heard, i may be wrong]. i dont want to start a comparison among the 2 cars, each of them worth around 21k, but i was wondering what everyone thinks the better overall car would be, as far as everything goes. [accel, reliability, tunability, fun to drive, gas mileage... etc...]. thanks for your input i appreciate it a lot.

SRT4 is a 4 door.... gti is a 2dr hatch...

srt4 is 4wd.....gti is fwd....

2 totally diff cars, u can get more power out of a srt4 and there alot faster but the vw will problably last longer.

Srt-4 is nothing but an Neon with a "decent" engine. I bet you could get a shiton I mean neon going faster for the extra price of the Srt-4. Just my opinion

the SRT4 has a "decent" engine? people are running 400HP on stock internals, i think it deserves more than a "decent". It has a new suspension, and a factory LSD, no other neon has that. You may think what you want, and it may share the neon badge, but it is not just a neon. don't hate on a car just because its from dodge lol

It could be the best engine in the world with a zillion mile warranty, I still wouldn’t touch it. Speed isn’t everything! I had the displeasure of going to the Chrysler dealership and test-driving the Srt-4, acceleration was good but everything else was neon, apart from those uncomfortable seats. Still apologizing to my VR6 for the humiliation it went through being parked at the dodge dealer .

Once again only my opinion.

Re: Srt4 / Gti 1.8t

Yeah a new SRT4 costs about 2 grand less than a new 1.8T or a VR6. Yes the 1.8T is nice but there is a lot of potential also with the SRT4. Yes like he said interiors are different but that's the difference between European cars and the American/Imports. I think both cars are nice and wonderful platforms for modding. Lets look at the set up between the 2 cars. SRT4 215whp from factory, factory upgrades that until stage2 don't void warranty, factory upgrades are inexpensive, stock internals have been proven to take a lot of whp, and stock it has a FMIC. The gearing I heard grinds a lot and tranny can be a problem and the interior is just that a neon. I do believe that Dodge(which has been improving it's quality)will address these problems with the next years SRT4.

1.8T stock it's 180hp(not whp) and 175tq(I think it might be a little higher or lower). Side mount intercooler heats up really fast, my mechanic who works on strictly foreign cars has had to replace
4-6 stock(unmodded) 1.8T engines in the last 2 years. A friend of mine who's a mechanic at a VW dealership has seen many problems with them also. On the brightside chip it and you've got almost and instant 20-40 hp+tq to your car. ABD makes a great CAI for them and bigger turbo kits aren't that expensive, also nice handling, nice interior, good gas mileage.

A plus to both is that they are both great looking cars. The SRT4 is unique looking in my opinion and the GTI is sharp and classic.

Now that may have been an overblown statement that I just wrote but hey what the hell.

How about i clear this up for you guys i have a SRT-4 2004 and my wife owns a 2002 jetta 1.8T i also have a DSM the SRT-4 is a bad bitch!! Yes VW are nice but they are slow VS my DSM and the SRT-4 i have spent under 1500.00 on the SRT and i am running low 12s stage 2 upgrade 3" turbo back. I love the jetta to drive around in but for performance wise its a pile of shit MODS: ABD quick flow intake, full IC pipes, Turbo back exhaust, MBC.....now i am sorry if i affended any one but that is the facts...OH 1 more thing the NEON badge is know where on the SRT its DODGE SRT-4 that's it on my insurance its is SRT-4 also

I test drove the model with the "sport seats" and no they are not better then the VW recaro seats, there confining and limit lag room (being 6'3" its important to me). At least your wife has good taste!
