Question 2000 silverado

2 questions,
1st while driving my security light comes on, does anyone know what this means, it only comes on and eventually goes off.

2nd, is it possible to hook up an amplifier to your stock ac-delco radio?

What do you mean by security lights?

Secondly, never hook up an amp to stock speakers. You're gonna blow them in a heart beat. By some new ones.

Your PK2 (Passlock 2) ignition system is failing. You'll have to have it checked at the dealer or someone that can get into the OBD2 diagnostics.

Yes, you can amp those speakers. The only problem is the factory stereo. It is very weak and very distorted. Distortion kills speakers. I yanked out my head unit as soon as I brought the truck home THEN amplified those speakers. Man was that like night and day!!!!

Oh, do you mean just to add a subwoofer? If so, yes you can but your OEM radio turns down the bass the louder you turn it up. The problem lies where you try to tune it. It will either be too bassy at low volume or no bass at high volume. To add a sub, you either need an amp with high speaker inputs or get High to low RCA adaptor.

I really appreciate the input, I was planning on switching out the speakers to Alpine and keeping the stock head unit, I just abused the originals till they clunked out.

On the instrument cluster in the message window the word Security pops up. But not much else that I can tell is going on.

Thanx for your time.
I am not familiar with the passlock 2 ignition system< what does it regulate? The word security pops up so intermitantly I was hoping it was just an occasional short.

Any time. Alpine is definately a good brand to go with. Maybe not the absolute best for loud speakers, but damn good. Even with the stock head unit youll notice a big difference and be very pleased. Talk to anyone who knows car audio and the first two things theyll tell you to change out are the stock speakers and stock head unit. Look around for a head unit. You can find very good Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, etc head units that play mp3s, wma's, and cds for around $150. Sometimes less. They may be simple in looks and functionallity, but it plays the music. And if your on a budget you get your moneys worth.

It's what will allow your truck to start or not. Inside the ignition cyl. there is a very delicate sensor that spits out the proper code to the BCM when you start your truck with the key. It is suppose to be that if someone tries to break the lock open and start it with a screwdriver, it leaves the truck useless. It will allow the truck to start then it will stall out and not restart until it sees the right code. Do a search on this here and you'll find all kinds of bad things
