Installing a Hitch

Has anyone here installed an hitch on their Intrigue, with the 3.8 engine. How much did it cost you for installation and electrical, was it difficult? I'm looking to installe one for small trailer towing and I want have an idea how much it will run me. Thanks

It looks like trailer hitches are slim picking for the Intrigue. How much does your trailer weigh? Keep in mind that the Intrigue, a unibody (?) sedan, can probably only tow 2,000 lbs. tops.

Depending on how mechanically inclined you are, installing a trailer hitch yourself can save a ton on installation costs and such. My father and I installed a trailer hitch on our Santa Fe last summer and the installation went very smoothly. It took us about 20-30 minutes, mostly because we had to figure out to remove the spare tire and pebbles from the sand on the road from the winter rained down on us every once and a while.

On etrailer.com (where we bought the hitch for the Santa Fe), shows two hitches for the Intrigue, a Class I (2000 lbs. max) and a Class II hitch (3500 lbs. max). They run for $79.67 and $114.09 USD respectavelly.

I'm not too sure about the wiring though; we just needed the hitch to carry a bike rack. Usually there is some sort of connection kit, but for the Intrigue, they want you to hardwire the connections. But etrailer sells hardwire kits to make it a little easier.

Yea i spoke to my friends father who owns a shop, he said the hardwiring on the intrigue is difficult, and for the class 1 hitch to be installed, half of the exhaust has to come down, so he said unless you own your own shop that would be difficult, so i'm getting it done by him for about 200 with electrical, not a bad deal

That's a pretty good deal. Lowering the exhaust is pretty easy acutally. On the Santa Fe (and most cars), the exhaust is hung on a hanger like thing connected by a rubber washer like thing.

I got a draw tite Class II hitch. it has four bolts that go into premade holes in the frame, but you have to drill two holes in the frame for for two other bolts. The hitch is great. you can't see any part of it except the receiver, unless you lie on the ground.
