floor jack?

I need to get a floor jack and jack stands for the rodeo and the little mazdaspeed. I'm new to these, any advice? Can I use a low cost 2 ton set on the rodeo, or is the 3.5 ton better, etc???

thanks

I've got an older 4 ton floor jack that I bought years ago at sam's club/bj's wholesale for around $100. It's large, steel and VERY heavy. If I ever have to get a new one, I'd definately shell out a few extra bucks & get one of those new aluminum floor jacks. WAAAY lighter & easier to handle & store. Sears, Harbor Freight or Pep Boys has pretty good deals on the aluminum ones. A 2 ton would be fine for a rodeo provided you dont want to pick the whole thing up at once ! A floor jack, a pair of jack stands & a set of ramps is a must for the DIY'er.
G/luck

Re: floor jack?

We have a 2 ton craftsman or something and it works ok. Biggest problem though is that it barely even lifts my rodeo high enough to take a tire off.

Re: floor jack?

I am using a 2 ton floor jack and jacks stands....(I bought it for my Acura Integra)....it does the job, but for safety I would get a 4 ton one....

Re: floor jack?

I have a jack that is a 2.5 ton that is made by prestone ( got it a Kmart, during one of their store closing sales for like 40 bucks).

The keep thing you wan to look for is the height of the jack so it will fit under your mazda.

Also, you want one that has a good lift height to get your tires off the ground on your rodeo.

When i got my jack I was looking for the same think since my wifes car is a 92 Prelude.

happy hunting!

thanks guys!

so, a 2 ton will lift the front, or the rear, (obviously not both), OK? I recall the rodeo weighs ~4800lbs.

If I recall, it's best to lift the rodeo front end by the center, correct. How about the rear?

I've seen the cheap deals for $30 for a 2ton & 2-2ton jacks at pepboys, etc...Are these worthless for the rodeo?

I'll keep in mind the height issue (low enough to clear the mazda, enough to lift the rodeo)

thanks

Even though Im using a 2 ton floor jack, I always have 1 or 2 jack stands next to the floor jack for safety reasons. I think I bought my floor jack for 25 bux...still does the job...

I have a Central Hydraulics floor jack from Harbor Freight that works dandy. Jacks my Rodeo up higher than I need it most times.

since you guys are so helpful, would you recommend not to use these cheapo ones that are on special all the time:

pepboys $30 floor jack and 2 jack stands

How about these ramps:
$17 ramps

thanks a bunch, for ll i know these are garbage, or will work fine. i really only need them to rotate tires, change oils, the basics!
