94 grand cherokee tranny problem

I have 94 grand cherokee with 42re tranny ,problem is i go to take off and the engine reves high but the jeep just creeps forword and if i slap it in first gear it takes off ok , if I'm at a stop it jurks them stop just like its coming in and out of gear. i also notice that it seems to be shifting to fast, like it comes out of first gear 20kmp. the rest of the gears are ok.Now i tried a new valve body and it did the same,i rebuilt the tranny and it still doing the same thing ,i also replaced the torque converter and it still doing the same thing.I scanned the tcm and didn't find no codes, but i went for a ride with the scanner and it felt like the trans was shifting (to fast)but the scanner wouldn't pick it up.If anyone could help me cause i'm stumed.

Re: 94 grand cherokee tranny problem

When you rebuilt the tranny, did you replace the oneway clutch on the low/reverse drum??

If I remember my automatic operation right, that one way clutch holds the drum during normal automatic operation ( starting of with the shifter in drive) for low gear. Using manual low engages the low reverse band to create the gear.

Also check the adjustment of the kick down cable that attaches from the throttle to the transmission.

Re: 94 grand cherokee tranny problem

Sounds like your throttle valve cable needs to be adjusted.

Re: 94 grand cherokee tranny problem

it would likely bolt up but you would have control problems with computer compatiblity. Better get a direct match and avoid all that hastle.
