Re: When to replace turbos, mechanical..

Just pull off the turbo inlet tupe (from the air cleaner) and check the bearing by pushing the turbine forward, backward and side to side. If there is a lot of movement in anny way, the turbo bearing is probably bad.

Re: When to replace turbos, mechanical..

That's one way to do it. Stock turbos on these cars generally last about 100k if driven properly they could go longer but not many people drive them slow. Other things that go wrong on the car is the interior right above the odometer, the dash panel will tend to start to come un-done from the dash because of the sunlight always being on it. You want to make sure that that has not started to happen but if it does, it can be fixed with some adhesive or lue. As well as the corners of the passenger airbags. You also want to check to make sure the targa top does not leak(if it is one) they tend to do that over time. Other than that, just make sure that it hasn't been in a wreck or damaged on the body. And under the hood, do a compression test to make sure the motor is sound and that the tranny is good. Usually a test drive will let you know if something in the drivetrain is messed up. Other than that, you should be good to go. Good luck with the buy and check back to tell us if you got it.
